Manic Monday #167

How old were you when you learned to tie your shoes?

No idea…most days i feel fortunate to have two matching shoes on…and when i learned to tie them is far too distant a memory.  I do remember when velcro shoes came in i thought they were a bit of a cop out (putting on my curmudgeon glasses as we speak)

Have you ever snooped in somebody else’s medicine cabinet?

Absolutely…i am very nosy.  And i consider it a Dating 101 Survival Tactic.

Who do you think you are?

Based on this, i would say i am a nosy curmudgeon with early Alzheimer’s…but that’s just my opinion.  Honestly…i wish i knew…i seem to be suffering thru some kind of life long identity crisis from which there is no escape.  Hopefully i will sort it out, sometime before my wake.

Yes…i’m on the floor again.  Another flare-up and i’m squeaking out ‘uncle’ this time.  It’s time to see Dr Doogette Howser.  Or a chiropractor.  Or PerfectSister’s much vaunted massage therapist.  Or (most likely) all of the above.  Up until today, I was at least comfortable as long as i kept moving or laid out flat on my exercise mat…but tonite, even after some time on the floor…i have a hitch in my gait that rivals that of the Hunchback of Notre Dame.  It’s not pretty and quite frankly, it’s starting to really annoy me.  I can’t sit for very long…so i’ll apologize for the brief blogging episodes.

I would kill to get my hands on one of those inversion table thingys…wonder if i could blog while hanging upside down?  I could rename the blog to something about Bats and Belfry’s…cliche, i know…but appropriate given the circumstances.

Keeping things short tonite (let’s blame the painkillers for my lack of coherence and cohesion) but sending out thanks to Jan, Pseudo,  Erin and Midlife Mama for sending me awards that i totally do not deserve…as Vodkamom would say…you people are too [deleted expletive]  kind!  I shall display them proudly, as soon as i can sit for a longer period of time and mess around with widgets and things.  The site could use a little makeover…almost as much as i could…so, at least one of us should get one and quite frankly, the site’s will be be easier and involve fewer miracles than mine, so it takes priority.  And pretty new awards from my blogging friends are just the thing to perk up the place.

I really am trying to get back up to speed here in the blogosphere…thought i might sneak some blogging in at work today…sitting in a comfortable, well-padded desk chair that wouldn’t cripple me.  However…the Crazy Wild-Haired She-Devil was in house today as most of the staff called in sick (a bit of a story for another post) and co-worker LL and I bailed quickly, never to return to the office for the remainder of the day. One of those days you appreciate that your position keeps you on the road…untraceable and untrackable…if you’re careful.

Hopefully later in the week, i shall be able to tell a few tales about the crazy boss that will provide valid field research-based evidence for Pseudo’s theory of sneaker farts, but for now…i need to try to get up off the floor and go to bed…and Holy Shit, that’s so much harder than it sounds…

Cheers until my next regularly scheduled round of painkillers!

Have any of you ever  heard of that mythical creature… ‘the car driven locally, by a little old lady’?  Well, I’m here to tell you that it really does exist…and i managed to find one.  So far, we’re in love…and driving has become a joy again.  And yes,  i will confess, I’ve wasted a bit of gas just cruising around in it…enjoying the great sound system and the fact that the heater and the a/c work (cos spring has sprung here in Lotusland…requiring heat in the am and A/C in the pm…a normal daily phenomenon).

The cruising thing…not very green of me, i know…but the novelty will wear off soon, as the realization of the cost of fuel sinks back in to my happy little head…and i will go back to more normal driving habits.  But for now, it’s just nice to know that i have transportation that will take me anywhere i need to go again.

At the trail...6:30 am...isn't she pretty?

The Scooterdog...on the inaugral trip to the trail.

So i think life will return to ‘normal’ for us…and i may actually have things to blog about again.  Life had been a little boring around here lately as Big V became increasingly crippled.  I was stuck at home every weekend, trying to keep driving to a minimum…grounded by a lack of reliable transportation, and left twiddling my thumbs.  Ack.  Boring AND frustrating.

But i’m all better now ;)

And for those of you wondering  about my whereabouts for the past few weeks…besides the car-shopping thing, I’ve also been battling a pinched nerve in my lower back that has been creating a problem for me in terms of sitting, and making it unpleasant to park in front of the ‘puter  and communicate with the world at large (and probably makes it sound like i had way more fun than i did on my holiday).  The past week (during which i also had to return to work…double ack) has been spent standing and walking, or prone…stretched out on my exercise mat…as those were the only positions i was comfortable in.  Fortunately, i had some left over anti-inflammatories from the elbow issue this winter (this aging thing is definitely not for the faint of heart)…and they seemed to have helped.  No idea really what caused the flare-up…maybe the stress of car-shopping?

Word of advice here, don’t attempt buying a vehicle over a long weekend…it does not go smoothly…trust me on this.

At any rate, the pain in my sitzing bits seems to be improving enough for me to resume yoga which should keep me limbered up for awhile…fingers crossed.

And my thanks again to all who have been enquiring as to my whereabouts and well-being…this blogging thing really does create a lovely, caring community…I’ll be stopping by to catch up on all your news in the coming days!

So…my vacation has started.  It’s lovely here…the weather is perfect, after a hopefully final snowfall on April 1st, we are sitting up in the 20C range.  Almost unbelievable, and although i don’t expect it to last for my whole vacation…it’s a great way to start it off!  Many plans for walks with the Scooterdog et al., trips to the gym and car shopping.  And naps.  Lots of naps…although the neighbours are doing a little construction next door, with consequent hammering and banging, i don’t begrudge them as ’tis the season.  I didn’t send out warning letters to said neighbours letting them know i would be expecting uninterrupted nap times.  Plus, I’m in a fairly good mood…so what the hell.

This afternoon i sat out on my back deck, in pj’s, watching the dergs putter around and chase bugs and birds…listening to some great tunes i’ve found on others’ blog sites (thank you Jack, Erin, Kate and Brandy and anyone else i may have missed for assisting in expanding my musical horizons and libraries)

Added bonus…Men’s World Curling Championships are on so there’s a little TSN that’s needing watching too…at least two draws per day…even if i only watch in a half-assed fashion while doing other things, i still feel extreme contentment.  Enough to diminish some goofy computer crap that’s going on and causing slight annoyance…seriously folks…get real jobs in IT and stop screwing the rest of the world up with your damn spyware shit. I have better things to do than running scans every bloody day to keep y’all out of my machine.

ps…Big thanks to people for keeping in touch during my little hiatus…i will be recalibrating now, as Goodfather would say…and getting back up to speed here shortly.  My hats are off to those of you who keep going everyday seemingly without much of a break.  Wow!  Obviously i lack stamina…or maybe my life is just not as much fun, or interesting, as yours…hmmm…think i need to work on that.  My adventure quota is in need of a boost…maybe as soon as i get some better wheels under me I’ll be able to get into more mischief.  Nothing really worth blogging about sitting here at home. I’d share spring cleaning pics but …oh…the horror. No one needs to see that

Manic Monday #162

How often do you change your toothbrush?

At least every 6 to 9 months, or every time the dentist gives me a ‘free’ one  :)

What is your favorite item of clothing to shop for?

Oh swimsuits of course…and if you believe that, you’re probably a man.

Do you use social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.)? Which do you use most often?

I used to have a Facebook account which i cancelled, partly because the Crazy Dog Breeder Guy was one of my contacts and i was trying to eliminate any possible avenues of harassment.  And partly because i never used it, just don’t have time.  I wouldn’t mind getting in on Twitter (think i’m registered) if for no other reason that to get in on Smart Mouth Broad’s Smart Ass game, but again…time is a factor and…um…work pays for my cellphone and not sure how the billing works for it…and LORD KNOWS that is not a discussion i want to have with the Boss From Hell :???:

So…er…the short answer would be…No, i don’t use any other social media outlets other than this blogging thingy.  I like this one just fine, even if i neglect it a bit at times.

To sleep in….or at least go back to bed after the dergs get me up.

To get my workout routines re-established.

To have time to find a new old car.

To have time to find a new washing machine…or even an old one that runs.

To watch CSI:NY reruns.

To take long leisurely late morning naps.

To file the ridiculous amounts of paperwork sitting around my house.

To shred large mountains of unneccessary paperwork sitting around my house.

To organize my beading  stuff.

To get some beading done after organizing it well enough to remember/find what i have to work with.

To not have to deal with everyone else’s shit all day long…and think about my own shit for awhile.

To spring clean…my house and my head space.

To take long leisurely afternoon naps.

To spend a little quality time with the dergs and maybe even try to civilize them a bit so i can take them out in public get them into the show ring again this summer.

To coerce or cajole my nephew The Mechanic into bringing a chainsaw over to cut up more of the tree stump from the blue spruce in my back yard that may or may not have fallen over on FredNextDoor’s house a couple of winters ago.  Have i mentioned what a great neighbour he is?

To pretend to watch important, socially relevant documentaries on tv while actually copping even more great afternoon naps.

And, perhaps most important of all…to stalk the blogs of all my blogging friends and get caught up on their stuff cos i’ve been falling so miserably far behind on everyone’s posts.  I’ve found that reading blogs has replaced, for me anyhow, the reading of magazines and newspaper.  It’s where i encounter great music, beautiful art, amazing recipes (no one needs to know it’s mostly the cocktails i’m interested in) and writing that makes me laugh, cry and think and question life with all its complexities and challenges.

So if you see me loitering on your site (after April 3rd that is!) for excessively long periods of time, don’t be alarmed…i’m either just in your archives snooping around…or i took a tired spell* and thus decided to have another nap, but forgot to exit your site before laying my little redhead down.

ps…here’s the answer to yesterday’s psychopath test…

She killed her sister so that there would have to be another family funeral,

and in hopes that the mystery man would again be in attendance.

Manic Monday #161

Do you enjoy brain teasers or do you find them frustrating?

Not especially, i have dabbled in crosswords and more recently, soduko…but hate those word finder ones…and didn’t particularly enjoy things like math problems in school etc.  Recently a friend of mine sent me the psychopath test…

Psychopath Test

This is not a trick question   It is as it reads.   No one I know has got it right.

A woman, while at the funeral of her own mother, met a guy whom she did not know. She thought this guy was amazing.. She believed him to be her dream guy so much, that she fell in love with him right there, but never asked for his number and could not find him. A few days later she killed her sister.

Question: What is her motive for killing her sister?

I was able to answer the question correctly…naturally i didn’t tell my friend i had heard this brain teaser before.  Better to leave him wondering

Do you have any unusual collections?

What is the definition of unusual?  I have a few tobacco silks and cigarette cards purchased off ebay, and some thistle themed jewelry (some from ebay and some inherited).  Some art work.  Various fox hunting, fox terrier and fox stuff, in different mediums.  Stoof like that…But nothing ‘unusual’ like tiny vermin skulls or sweat stained rockstar memorabilia.

What do people notice about you within the first hour of meeting you (other than appearance)?

My wretched Capricornesque common sense…shines thru like beacon of boredom and praticality.  Oh why couldn’t i have been an artisitic Aquarian, or a changeable Piscean, something that would keep people annoyed and guessing what my next move would be.   :(

have i mentioned 5 more sleeps?!….
